Acts 9-10: You are Useful to God

Acts, Christian Living, Working for God

Acts 9-10 (ESV) by Wordle*

Today’s reading is Acts 9:1-10:48.

“Now there was a disciple at Damascus named Ananias. The Lord said to him in a vision, ‘Ananias.’ And he said, ‘Here I am, Lord.’ And the lord said to him, ‘Rise and go to the street called Straight, and at the house of Judas look for a man of Tarsus named Saul, for behold, he is praying…’” (Acts 9:10-11).

Jesus could have saved Paul on the road to Damascus all by Himself. He could have either simply declared Paul saved if he wanted or could have told Paul what He wanted him to do to be saved. He didn’t need Ananias to do this. But, Jesus wanted to use Ananias.

While Jesus could do all of His work all by Himself, He has chosen to use us. He wants you and me to be part of His plan. He wants us as a working part of the team. That means Jesus thinks we can accomplish something worthwhile. He has faith in us. He simply wants us to step up to the plate.

I need to do that today. What work can I do for Jesus today? He wants me on His team. He wants to put me up at bat. That is amazing.

Keep the faith and keep reading,

ELC

God does not take away all obstructions in order for us to serve Him. In 9:16, God said, “he (Saul) must suffer for my name’s sake”. In 9:23, Saul had to escape the Jews and their death threats. I’m sure he suffered. I would. BUT…God was w/Saul in the hour of trial. God delivered Saul to safety…why? To do His will. When he arrives…they don’t trust him. That is suffering. It hurts when you know you love the Lord and want to do his will and your fellow Christians don’t trust you. God helped Saul over this hurdle. 9:31, Why did the church experience peace? Saul was on the Lord’s side…he was not persecuting; he was preaching Jesus.

We have to have courage when God wants to use us as His tool. Ananias had that courage to go and see a man that he was afraid of. David had that courage when he stepped forward to fight Goliath. We have to have the upmost faith and trust in our God to allow Him to use us. He will guard and keep us. Ps. 91.

Great point, Cindy. Of course, Ananias had courage because he knew he was going with God. That, I think, is what we have to focus on if we want to increase our courage.
