Luke 1-2: God Deserves Praise

Glorifying God, Luke

praise 268x300 Luke 1 2: God Deserves PraiseToday’s reading is Luke 1:1-2:52.

In Luke 1:25, Elizabeth praised God, saying, “Thus the Lord has done for me in the days when he looked on me, to take away my reproach among people.”

In Luke 1:46-49, Mary praised God, saying, “My soul magnifies the Lord, and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior, for he has looked on the humble estate of his servant. For behold, from now on all generations will call me blessed; for he who is might has done great things for me, and holy is his name.”

In Luke 1:68-69, Zechariah praised God, saying, “Blessed be the Lord God of Israel, for he has visited and redeemed his people and has raised up a horn of salvation for us in the house of his servant David…”

Luke begins with a litany of praises. God is worthy of that praise. He has done great things. He has brought us salvation. He did work the plan, despite man’s attempts and Satan’s attempts the thwart Him.

As Luke began His book, we should begin our days, praising God for His greatness, mercy, and benefits.

***QUESTION: What great things has God done for you that cause you to praise Him?

Keep the faith and keep reading,

ELC

Two rich chapters that begin the end of man’s hopeless sinful situation. The difficult part about this is deciding what to comment on. These chapters are pretty familiar, so its best to comment on what jumps out that I hadn’t seen before or make a powerful impression. Here’s the first. I am impressed by Mary’s response to the angel. He has just told her news that socially would devastate her reputation and the reputation of her fiance. She could have cried, “Foul!”, but that is not her attitude at all. Her response, “Behold, the bondslave of the Lord; may it be done to me according to your word.” There are times I need to do better at saying that than worrying about how God’s will is going to effect my life in what seems to be a negative way for the short term. Second, Mary’s praise of God is so insightful into the character and power of God. The phrase that impressed me, “Mercy is upon…those who fear Him.” Edwin, I look forward to reading through the Bible with you. Thanks for supplying this opportunity.

Norm, great thoughts. I’m trying to learn that I need to give my life over to God whether or not His plans for me are the same as my plans for me. Thanks for reminding me of that.

I’m glad you’ve joined us and look forward to your insight.

We are not guaranteed children in this life, yet man has always considered them one of life’s greatest joys. I love so many aspects of life on this earth through the blessings of God, but just about all fail to even come close to the richness I have in my children. As pointed out, Elizabeth was overjoyed to have a child, and so I guess I could say so doubly so. There are many other great things God has done, but one that certainly causes me to praise Him daily is my children.

I’m right there with you, David.

I have so many reasons to praise God for what He has done for me. He has given me salvation, and that in itself is enough. However, additionally, he has blessed me with an awesome companion who loves me even when I’m not very lovable. What a blessing! My children are another reason for me to praise God. Each one brings me unmeasurable joy in this life. I am truly blessed… I could go on and on counting my blessings, but I’ll stop at my top 3. :-) Thanks for helping me to stop and take a moment to consider what God has done for me.

I thank the Lord each and every day for the gifts of my children and the blessing of having such wonderful Christians in my life for encouragement, but what about the trials? Very seldom have I thanked God for all of those tough times and difficult choices. It is for those experiences that I am truly grateful. The opportunities to see what we are truly made of. To be shown where we need improvement. Most importantly, a chance to show our complete trust and faith to go to Him in our greatest time of need.

Hey Jamie, thanks for joining us here. It is tough to praise God for the hard times, but like you said, those are often the times that actually help us out the most. I think about Paul and his thorn in the flesh.

    Good thoughts.

Genesia, are you pregnant? Is that what I’m getting out of this post? Shawn told me you all were trying. Congratulations. I’ll be praying for you.

Janice, you forgot to mention…”great preacher.” All jokes aside, your list really shows we have a lot to praise God for.

I would like to praise God for giving me some success today in putting up advertisements for a Correspondence Course. I asked that He help me in it. I had a goal of putting up THREE posters around town at some of the local businesses…and I hit that goal on my FOURTH stop! Y’all can rejoice with me and pray for that effort.
